Dear Friends of Gompers, Thank you for your continued support of our school. For years, as many of you know, Gompers has never had a field that supported high school sports. Our alumni and current students know the value what a quality sports program can provide our high school students. As a college prep school, we believe in providing a well rounded high school experience for our students so they can become productive contributors in our community.
For over 50 years, our students have gone without a field. Currently they play on rocks, dirt, and sift through tumbleweed to run track, play soccer, baseball and other sports. This is one tradition we would like to change. But we need every one's help to build our field of dreams.
Gompers has had its ups and downs over the years in regards to safety, and student achievement. Today, Gompers is a shining example of what is right in public education. Once the lowest performing school in San Diego, Gompers has increased it's test scores and improved the overall safety and culture of the school. Students are in uniforms, studying hard for mid-terms and finals, using academic language, and learning to give back to their community. Now let us all pull together and give to our students. They deserve the opportunity that many of us didn't have when we attended Gompers.
