Academic Support Programs
  • GPA PM: Our upperclassmen need a safe, quiet environment in order to reach their goal of college entrance.  GPA PM converts our library into a welcoming study environment with tutors and workshops on such topics as SAT prep and time management. GPA PM will serve approximately 230 students.      COST: $15,000
  • Math Learning Center: Our Math Learning Center is open three days a week afterschool to provide tutoring, homework help, and math enrichment in an exploratory setting. The Math Learning Center will serve approximately 850 students.  COST: $17,000
  • UCSD Tutors: Each quarter, college students from UCSD volunteer to work with our students in their classrooms to tutor as well as provide college role models for our students. UCSD Tutors will serve approximately 850 students. COST: $10,000
21st Century Technology
  • One-to-One Laptop Program: Our 1-1 laptop program will supply our ninth and tenth graders with a laptop for everyday use, allowing them to develop the fundamental technology skills needed to succeed in college and beyond. The One to One Laptop Program will serve approximately 230 students. COST (After matching funds from the District): $150,000
  • Digital Whiteboards: Digital Whiteboards bring a whole new level of interactivity to the classroom, allowing teachers to interact with images, presentations, and manipulatives to actively engage students in the learning process. The Digital Whiteboards will serve approximately 850 students.  COST: $54,000
Professional Development 
  • Instructional Consultants: Instructors and staff members receive professional development on a weekly basis both as a whole staff and by individual department.  Experts in subjects such as differentiation of learning, mainstreaming special needs students, and teaching literacy across the curriculum consult with our staff and aid in increasing the quality of instruction. COST: $50,000
  • Academic Resource Teachers: Our mathematics and English resource teachers provde ongoing professional development to their departments as well as collaborate with colleagues to develop curriculum and evaluate student success.COST: $150,000
  • Academic and Culture Camp: Every summer, we bring our teachers back two weeks prior to the start of school to revisit our school culture, examine student data results from the previous year, learn the school-wide academic goals for the upcoming year, and take part in targeted professional development designed to meet those academic goals. COST: $80,000

Student Field Trips
  • Washington, DC Leadership Program: This 8th grade program is a year-long course that teaches leadership, communication, teambuilding, and U.S. History and government, and culminates in a five-day trip to Washington, D.C. Students pay approximately 25% of the trip cost and fundraise the rest through school fundraisers, individual and corporate sponsors, and a spring benefit. COST (One Student Fare): $1,600
  • College Field Trips: To support our college going culture,  throughout the year we take our students on tours of college campuses throughout Southern California, including UC San Diego, UC Los Angeles, the University of Southern California, and San Diego State University. COST: $15,000
  • Cultural Performances: To contribute to a well-rounded education, it is imperative that we expose our children to the arts through performances in San Diego.  Field trips include plays, musical performances, dance performances, and the opera. COST: $5,000
Arts Programs
  • Theatre Productions: Our theatre department provides the opportunity for students to express themselves and develop vocal, physical, and emotional talents.  Costs include production royalties, sets, costumes, props, and theatre development materials. COST: $10,000
  • Dance Program: GPA seeks to establish a dance program during its Selected Electives afterschool program to foster creativity, health and exercise, and exposure to the arts. Costs include dance and instructor fees, classroom materials, and costumes. COST: $30,000

Uniform Assistance Program
  • With 70% of our families living at or below the absolute poverty line, many students cannot afford the uniforms they need to attend GCMS. In exchange for parent volunteer hours, our uniform assistance program allows low-income parents to obtain elements of or entire uniforms for their students. COST (One complete uniform with jacket): $94
