GPA Family Support Center
The Family Support Center (FSC) supports the GPA mission by providing students and their families support services in overcoming obstacles that may get in the way of students making education their number one priority. The Family Support Center assistance for students who are experiencing difficulty in having success at school in developing life and academic tools that will help them be at school every day and be successful in class in order to help make college a reality for their lives.
Directed by the Family Support Center Director, the FSC Team is composed of school counseling, enrollment, attendance, family services, health and wellness department, and community based organizations co- located to provide additional supports. The purpose of this group is to make sure all services are reaching the students and families that need them directly and effectively, design professional development as appropriate for GPA staff, and develop new structures of support as well as refining existing ones.
Counseling and Guidance - Academic counseling

Family Services - Community social services housed on site that provide family and individual student counseling (Union of Pan Asian Communities, METRO/United Methodist Urban Ministries, SER)

- Anger management groups, drug and alcohol prevention groups, violence intervention

Health and Wellness Department - Major first aid/emergency medical care
- Health education/counseling
- Review records and immunize students
- Vision, hearing and scoliosis screening
- Referrals & follow up – medical and social
- Fitness/nutrition class for students who are overweight and CPR
- Staff trainings (First Aid, Blood Borne Pathogens, CPS)
- Attendance support

Prime Time
Ground Zero
Ground Zero, also known as ‘The center of rapid or intense development or
change’ is the weekly meeting held by the Family Support Center Team
which is comprised of school counseling, enrollment, attendance, health
and wellness, family services and the after school program. During
Ground Zero meetings, staff discuss current school/student issues,
share information on program updates and new program ideas. The Family Support Center staff also uses this opportunity to work collectively through professional development topics and discussions. The strong sense of ‘team’ seen throughout GPA is alive and well during Family Support Center Ground Zero meetings.
