The Mayor of San Diego visited GPA on Monday morning, December 14th at 8:00. He was greeted by students and toured the campus. He was honored by our school president, Isaac Ramos and ASB Class Officers as they told their own personal testimony of their experience at GPA. The Mayor then visited the sixth grade class of Ms. Fortunado where the students greeting the Mayor with smiles. Ms. Fortunado spoke with the Mayor about her class and the curriculum of math and science.The Mayor then was escorted to a high school college class in the auditorium. Students performed for the Mayor and dazzled the 300 plus 9th and 10th graders. After the student performances the Mayor addressed the student body. The Mayor praised GPA parents, students and staff for their outstanding example of positive change. "This is one of the most unbelievable changes I have ever seen in any institution--not just in schools, but in anything." With accolades for our Board of Directors for their continued commitment, the Mayor received a standing ovation by the student body. He encouraged the students to be the change in the community and spoke about his past as a police officer and how proud he was of the generational change taking place at Gompers. He ended by thanking the students for their efforts to go to college. Congratulations parents, students and staff for being the positive change in public education! |
